Emily Hirshman-Smith Counselling in Perth & Cottesloe
Are you going through a tough time in your relationship? Struggling with a big life change and feeling overwhelmed?
It might look as though everyone else has it figured out, but in reality, we all go through periods of our life where we feel lost and unable to cope. Negative thoughts and feelings left unchecked can become destructive and can get in the way of us living happy and fulfilling lives. Talking to a professional can help. A counsellor or psychotherapist who understands human behaviour can work with and facilitate you reframing your perspective, so that you can make healthier choices.
I understand reaching out to a counsellor or psychotherapist can be daunting, especially if you have never undertaken therapy before. But when you create a space to gain insight into your problems and learn new ways of coping, you are likely to feel a huge sense of relief.
Hi, I’m Emily
I am a Psychotherapist and Counsellor in Cottesloe and Perth
I have been a practicing therapist for over twenty-one years. I have a Masters Degree in Counselling, and am always furthering my learning, particularly in Gestalt, Psychodynamic and Gottman therapeutic approaches.
After over two decades as a therapist, I still feel privileged to be a part of my clients’ journey of healing, recovery and redirection. I find people fascinating and thrive on learning about human behaviour.
The counselling services I offer in Perth focus on couples counselling, sex and pornography addiction, anxiety and depression, and sexual abuse. I also specialise in sexual identity, sexual dysfunction, unplanned pregnancy and post-termination counselling.
I am a warm, open-minded and non-judgemental person. I have an intuitive approach to therapy and I develop trusted relationships with my clients.
What to expect?
Your session is guided by your needs.
Each session will take its own direction, supported and held by me. Does this mean I only sit back, nod and take notes? No, I am not a notetaker. Although I pay careful attention to what you are sharing with me, I believe in being present for you and your experience. I ask questions where necessary and give guidance when required.
Although I am here to help you navigate through life's difficulties, counselling and psychotherapy is about you. I provide a safe and comfortable space for you to explore whatever you need to, supporting you and helping you to get clearer on what you want, and what you don't want.
I am a warm, open-minded and non-judgmental person who develops trusted relationships with my clients.
And if you are comfortable (I always ask beforehand), my Groodle dog, Mason, may sit with us while we talk. He’s a gentle and loving dog who has aided many in their healing.
